I HAVE BEEN COMPARING MY SKIN RECENTLY TO MY OLDER SISTER WHO HAS SMOOTH FLAWLESS LOOKING SKIN, MY SKIN IS A MESS WHERE DID I GO WRONG?

Not getting involved in a good skin care routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing every day twice daily from a very young age and definitely opting out not to use a moisturizer.  I recommend introducing good grooming habits from a very young age. I would say by age 11 or 12 because that is around the average age when the body starts to change.

It is inevitable that you remove your makeup and cleanse at the end of your day, since opting not to cleanse can cause pores to become clogged which often result in blackheads and other unwanted issues with the skin.

Toning removes any residue from the cleanser or makeup remover and clears the pores of oily build-up and dirt which may have been accumulated during the course of the day or night;  it is also very refreshing for the skin.

Moisturizing is very important, it is a step that should not be skipped. It doesn’t matter what your skin type is; moisturizing helps to lock in the skin’s natural moisture, prevents premature aging, protects our skin from the sun and other elements in the atmosphere.

So there are lots of benefits to be gained from moisturizing, it is important not just for women but also for men to not over look this stage of skin care since we are all exposed to the same elements. The key here is to develop an intimate relationship with your skin so you can choose the best product(s) would  give you the result you are looking for in order for you to age more gracefully.

It is also very important that you select the right products to compliment your skin type.  For example if your skin is oily, your skin care products should be oil free.

Of course your diet, day-to-day life style and exercise also plays a great role in the process of achieving smooth, healthy, flawless looking skin.

I AM 40 YRS OLD. I HAVE BEEN USING PALMERS SKIN SUCCESS PRODUCTS FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS, I USED THE SOAP AND THE MOISTURE CREAM, I SELDOM TONE, BUT USED THE CLEANSING PADS. QUESTION, CAN I CHANGE FROM THIS PRODUCT TO ANY OTHER PRODUCT SUCH AS BLACK OPAL?

Yes you can.  Every 7-10 years our bodies go through natural changes which eventually have some adverse effects on the skin, especially coming down to 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, cells growth and replacement goes on at a slower pace. Your skin care products should definitely adapt in order to be more effective to these natural changes

Black Opal has an excellent skin care line; however by the late 30’s -40 you should begin to include age defying products in your skin care routine.  My overall advice is to develop an intimate relationship with your skin (my mantra) so you can choose products based upon your skin’s needs.  Pay special attention to the area around the eyes, mouth and neck as this is where the first tell-tale signs of aging tend to appear.  Don’t forget your hands, the more tlc you gave, the more evident will be the benefits.

Other product lines that has excellent packages are Avon www.avon.com, L’Oreal go to the website www.lorealparisusa.com the products are already categorized for the different age groups; don’t forget  to include special treatment for your eyes.  One natural way to attack wrinkles around the eyes is to pat a bit of pure vitamin E oil or pop a pill and use the oil around the eyes at night as a special treatment.

Whatever product you choose ensure that your day moisturizer has at least an SPF of 15 as daily exposure to the sun is the #1 culprit of premature aging. I also advise that you include toning in your skin care routine especially if you have oily skin, toning removes residue of the cleanser, clear the pores of excess oily build up and restore pH balance to the skin, some toners also aid in tightening pores. Remember it is very important to choose products that would compliment your skin type. And definitely stay away from soap as it is most often too harsh it dry out the skin.

Tired of leaving home looking all freshly made up & b/4 u get 2 d office it appears as though butter was pasted all over ur face, open pores r staring @ u, pipples on 4head r poking out??? Join in my quest 2 find d solution!!!
Oily skin has always been an issue 4 me but it appears since I’ve started using a new moisturizer & foundation d situation is worse (or is it just my imagination)… all these supposedly ‘oil-free’ products don’t do squart 4 me…
Help!!!

My Response below

I also have very oily skin… which by the way is a plus, you won’t age as quickly as people with dry skin. Lets take a look at what you are putting into your body first… your diet and way of life, whether you exercise or get sufficient rest has a positive or negative impact on the way your skin looks. I recommend that you increase your intake of water, fruits, vegetables and vitamins, especially B6/B12, which helps to combat with over active sebaceous glands and cell renewal, Vit E also is also very good for your skin… Next what does your daily cleansing routine consist of? Are you using the right skin care products for your skin type? Does your skin routine include special care of using a scrub and a mask at least once or twice per week? Using a mask helps to tighten your pores. There are also mattifying gels or primers that can be used after you apply your moisturizer with at least SPF15, instead of using cream to powder foundations I recommend oil-free liquid or Matte finish foundations which are water based, my favourite is Revlon Colourstay… there are also oil-absorbing powders that you can use to set your foundation… the key is to develop an intimate relationship with your skin so you can learn what works best for you… what ever you do don’t stop moisturizing. And stay away from harsh astringents and face cleansers that has a high alcohol content.
